SPINNING

Drop Spindling 101

Get introduced to the wonderful art of spinning with a drop spindle. We make it fun to learn to make your own yarns! This is a great way to start.

Have you been wanting to learn to spin? Just can’t seem to find the time? This intensive two day workshop will cover basics, from drop spindling to wheels, fiber differences, and technique. Class fee includes overnight accommodations and meals for both days. Take some time and plunge in- it will be one of your best weekends ever!

This class will have you spinning beautiful yarn in just a few short weeks! Learn the fundamentals of fiber preparation, drop spindling, wheels, spinning techniques and plying. The last class is a dyeing class, too. Includes rental of Schacht Matchless Wheel for 5 weeks.

Refine your spinning skills with alpaca, llama, angora and even dog hair! We’ll spin samples of each and discuss the best ways to spin, ply and finish the yarn. Expand your horizons!

Wondered how to achieve balanced yarns that are pleasant to look at and work with? We will explore two and three plies, cabled yarns and Navajo plying. These techniques will improve the functionality and quality of your yarn. Bring with you spun singles.

Create heirloom-like edges around pillows, towels and other accessories for the home. We’ll use fingering weight yarns and tea towels to practice on; bring with you pieces you want to edge for suggestions.

Puzzled about felting and what wool to use? Would you like to have control over your felting? Sample 8 types of wool in wet felting and constructing them into a table runner at completion. A great class if you have (or wanted to!) wet felt.

Nestle a fragrant spice blend inside a cozy sachet in the shape of a pumpkin. You’ll love the way it warms a room, or how it can serve as a hot pad in the kitchen.

Learn to wet felt as we make four leaves that can be used as window decorations, placemats, or sewn together for runners. We’ll teach how to lay out fibers for even felt, shaping, felting and fulling processes that are fun! Bring a beach towel and clothes you can get wet in!

Felted Nativity Scene

Make a nativity scene with Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, a star and three sheep with needle felting techniques. Start a family tradition this year!

Nativity Kings and Camels

If you already have the nativity set, and want to expand, we will be making a wise man and camel in the class, and supplies for the rest are included for you to make at home. Honor the wisemen who searched for the greatest treasure in the world- Christ the king, a babe in the manger.

Create a watercolor-like painting of winter trees, cardinals and a snow-covered landscape with wool fibers. We’ll then felt it into a material. The second week, we’ll construct it and embellish. You’ll make a breathtaking piece for your home!

Select colors and blend on the drum carder with Angelina sparkles to form the base fibers for a table runner. You’ll learn how to use inlay design techniques to “draw” snowflakes on the surface. The entire piece will be wet felted for a unique piece to carry from the holidays into the winter season.
